“Hello, Gorgeous!” was the term made famous by the beautiful and talented actress, Barbra Streisand in the movie ‘Funny Girl.’ Girls in the 60’s and 70’s went crazy when the diva uttered the magical words looking at herself in the mirror in the movie. Her character ‘Fanny Price’s journey of rise to fame and her portrayal of a confident and fashionable lady won the hearts of many. Much like Kareena Kapoor’s evergreen character ‘Poo’ from Kabhie Khushi Gham was appreciated for her style, attitude and elegance. I mean, which Bollywood buff could forget a similar scene when she speaks to herself in front of the mirror at the introduction of her character.
Just like her character won her accolades, Barbra Streisand’s fame in the movie too led to her winning the Oscar for ‘Best Actress.’ The term gained popularity all over again when spoke the same words “Hello, Gorgeous!” to the prestigious award she received. The paparazzi, critics and the fraternity praised her for rightfully portraying the Oscar for what it was – an event that appreciated everything worthy and beautiful.
From its advent in 1929, the Academy Awards ceremony, which started as a 15 minute ceremony in its initial years has proceeded to become the most glamorous event of all times. It is the ultimate fashion affair where the top Hollywood celebrities walk down the red carpet raising the temperature in their stunning Guccis, Armanis and Louis Vuitton attires.
While the fashion lovers religiously follow the occasion to check out the latest styles and trends, fashion critics too keep a keen eye on the event to take a note of the fashion hits and misses for the season right from the hairdo to the nail polish used. However, not far behind are the personality experts who have successfully started linking the choice of colours and attire used to the different personalities and moods of the superstars.
Although this may seem a little far-fetched, it has been successful in providing many apt descriptions. For instance, while a choice of neon coloured nail polish is a reflection of someone who is all set to be the life of a party, a dark coloured tone is an example of someone who prefers a little mystery. Someone opting for floral nail art is most definitely sweet and feminine, while someone opting for a red tone is sassy and downright confident.
So, even though the Oscars this year may have had its small share of goof-ups in La La Land under the Moonlight, Styleshaala is here to help you get the right set of nails for the Oscar like important occasions in your life. Because we understand your need to be perfect to the T and give others the opportunity to get a glimpse of the real glitzy you in the tiniest of details.
The 3 Musketeers you need for your look are:
A Toothpick
1 shade of nail polish
2-3 colours of paint
The Fantastic Four Steps:
Apply one coat of nail polish. Add 5 drops of glitter on it forming a circle. Hold the polish brush horizontally and use a colour that’s visible.
Take the sharp edge of the toothpick. Make a line from inside out in the center of the 5 drops.
Take the blunt edge of the toothpick and draw it in the center to complete the flower design. Use a different bright colour for this.
Draw one more flower if there is more space on your hand. You can decide whether you want one big flower or 2-3 small ones.
Fast 5 Important #StyleShaala Tips on How to Choose the Colours:
Do not use dark colours for both the nail polish and the paint. Otherwise the nail art won’t stand out.
Try and blend the colour of the nail polish with the outfit you’re wearing. Or select a colour that compliments the dress. For instance, do not opt for a green nail polish with a beige outfit.
Go for subtle or one tone colours on formal occasions. Do not use colours like orange and yellow.
Use glitter to get the glam look. Do not use too many colours.
Add drops that compliment the design to the empty spaces. But, be neat. Leave gaps in the middle. Try using one colour that suits all.
