The Importance of Eyebrow & filling tutorial

0

You must never underestimate the power of the eyebrow – Jack Black

Eyebrows are the most prominent feature of your face. In fact, if I were to make a comparison, I’d conveniently say that they are a lot like the crease in your shirt. You barely notice while the shirt is perfectly ironed and tucked in but, the moment there is a small crease on that crisp shirt, that’s all everybody notices.

Sadly, that is the same with eyebrows. They can completely change the way you look. Especially for ladies with thick eyebrows, it could be quite a pain when the hair starts growing in a messy fashion. There is a bigger problem for people who have extremely thin or scanty eyebrows. They don’t suit the face either. And while it appears to be a petty matter to pay attention to, people can get really finicky or paranoid about eyebrows.

A study conducted by Massachusetts University stated that the eyebrows might be as important a feature as the eyes for people when they have to recognize faces. Scientists also claim that eyebrows can be considered as an important means of non-verbal communication. They help in expressing different emotions like anger, joy and surprise.

Not only studies, eyebrows are also an important point of assessment in the ancient art of Face reading.

  1. People with straight eyebrows are considered to be direct, analytical and straight forward in thinking and conveying.
  2. People with bushy eyebrows are perceived to be deep thinkers and highly intelligent.
  3. People with thin eyebrows are usually considered to be highly sensitive and conscious about how others see them.
  4. People with scattered eyebrows (un kept hair) are said to be restless and focusing on multiple things at the same time. They can also be indecisive at times.
  5. People with low eyebrows (when there is less distance between the eyebrows and the eyes) are impatient and may sometimes be hasty in decision making. However, they are positive thinkers and have a go-getter attitude in life.

Talk about being judgemental. Although there’s not much we can do with the natural shape of your eyebrows, we can certainly take a few precautionary steps to make them look perfect. Importantly, Since we know how important eyebrows are. So we at Mirraw have the perfect way to show you how to fill your eyebrows, making them look neat and well-kept. I mean, after all there’s more to it than meets the eye. Pun intended.

WHAT YOU NEED

An Eyebrow Pencil (Shade of your choice)

THE PROCESS

Step 1: Comb your eyebrows

Using the brush on one side of the pencil, comb your eyebrows. Ensure that you do it in one direction or it will get messy again. Brush it overall and not certain areas only.

Step 2: Filling the eyebrows

Use the other end of the brush to start filling in your eyebrows. Focus more on the areas that has less hair. Do apply it evenly though. Be careful to slowly make the filling thinner towards the edges, depending on the shape of your eyebrows.

IMPORTANT STYLESHAALA TIPS

  1. Do not play around with the natural shape of your eyebrow much

Eyebrow filling can be used as a method to enhance your eyebrows. However, they should not be used to completely try and change the shape of your eyebrows. Otherwise it will result in the eyebrows looking fake or weird, if not done right.

  • Focus on the shade of the Eyebrow Pencil

Do not use a very dark or very light colour. Check your skin and face’s complexion before deciding the colour. Also, the colour of the hair in your eyebrows is also an important determinant of the shade of the eyebrow pencil.

Partywear Attires for Indian Women

The movie ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ was quite the talk of tinsel town last year. It garnered a lot of attention from the moment the trailer set in. The mesmerizing locations, the handsome Ranbir Kapoor with his loverboy intensity, the two gorgeous leading ladies and the phenomenal background score had the crowd eagerly awaiting the big release. However, as time moved on, the road clearly went downhill and the movie was engulfed in a series of controversies.

And personally, I think what made it worse was the movie being absolutely not worth it. Even after putting together the finest cast, director and a support team, the movie just failed to entice its audience. It just didn’t strike the right chord and lagged on in its entire length. In spite of its share of hits and misses, there was one element where the film clearly shined out. No! I’m not talking about its sensational and soulful music. Okay let’s make that two elements then. The second thing the film got completely bang on was the look of the leading ladies.

Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchcan undoubtedly looked stunning throughout the film. While Aishwarya’s character had every guy’s heart flipping with her bold, confident and glamorous avatar, Anushka too won hearts with her grounded, modern and unassuming portrayal of Alizeh. Manish Malhotra did a great job on that one. Alizeh’s costumes were especially appreciated for being the perfect fusion of chic and ethnicity.  In fact, it highlighted a very impressive trend that’s catching on now.

Fusion is the fashion mantra of the season. Gone are the days where parties meant backless gowns and deep-neck dresses. Fashion has revolutionized itself to match up to the comforts and sensibilities of every woman. Infact, fancy traditional wear for parties has been a huge hit. Women are joyously opting for this option made available, many adding their own creative touch to the look.

Celebrated designers like Sabyasachi and Ritu Kumar are adding positively to the trend with their out of the box designs and aesthetic fashion sense. Looking sexy and suave is no longer restricted to a particular kind of dress code or a particular length of outfit. There has been an influx of variations from brilliant stylists to make every outfit fit for every occasion.

While we are evolving to get more specific in our tastes, it is indeed a pleasant time to realize that there is an array of options to choose from. No where could we have been in a better time to make a style statement where all that is really required to stand out is our comfort and our confidence.

So, lets take a minute and thank the leading ladies Anushka, Kareena, Alia and others for looking their unassuming best and encouraging this trend. Let’s specially thank all those ladies we see everyday too who are committed to their roots and ethnicity. Because they are the reason that such a fad has caught on and is doing marvels.

And while we are on this topic, here’s a little insight from us. We at Mirraw have completely adored this trend. And since we know your tastes and preferences too, we’ve put in a little bit of our hard work and tried to dig out a few good options for you lovely ladies out there. We’ve collected a lot of images representing the various styles that are fresh and quite in demand this season. The options range from light to heavy, subtle to extravagant, simple to sassy to suit everyone’s tastes.

So, all you ethnic lovers out there, just go through our Video, pick the option you like best, pick up your phone and simply ask “Where’s the Party tonight?”

BEST PICKS: BEAUTIFUL BANGLES AND BRACELETS

Any Indian girl born upto the 90’s will know the importance of ‘Choodiyan’ thanks to it being publicized in countless Bollywood movies and occasions possible. The colourful choodiyan have been an integral part of depicting emotions in any situation, which mighty words could not express.  ‘Choodi ka khanakna’ has poetically been associated with the girl’s happiness and innocence. Whereas ‘choodiyon ka tootna’ is effectively ingrained as an indication of some misfortunate event. While any shaadi song has been incomplete without having a line dedicated to ‘choodiyan’ in its lyrics, an Indian woman’s solaah shringaar is incomplete without its presence too.

Over a period, there has been evolution in the concept as well where simple kaanch ki choodiyan have been replaced with fancy and designer masterpieces. While there is an old time charm to the age old simple bangles, the new designs are a treat for the eyes and the mind. Bracelets, the upgraded version have found their place too. And this is of relevance especially now, when many of these artistic designs have been aesthetically merged with another one of a woman’s love – Diamonds.  Bangles are indeed an important piece of jewellery for an Indian woman and are many-a-times, symbolic for the woman itself. They are both strong, elegant, beautifully moldable and delicate at the same time.

We at Mirraw offer you a series of design options for your bangles and bracelets, keeping in mind the latest trends with a classy and ethnic touch.

DIY – Crayon Candle Making at Home

0

Just a few days ago, I revamped my entire room. It had been a while since I made any changes or additions to it. There were a few old things that needed to be replaced and a few that no longer carried any value. So, I got deeply involved in the task, personally deciding the new showpieces, flowers and frames to buy. I went as far as to change the curtains and drapes as well.

So, after three months of a massive treasure hunt and brainstorming, I finally completed the herculean task. And I must say, I was satisfied with the final outcome. The room looked quite much as I visualized it. However, there was one particular spot that didn’t seem right.

As a book-lover, I got a customized bookshelf made with all my favourite books. But, the shelf had three spots that could incorporate something else. But, nothing I looked at appealed to me. It felt out of place or not upto the mark. I tried a variety of options from antiques to showpieces, flower vases to key stands. But, nothing fit. By this time, I had almost given up and decided to leave the space empty. This is when my best friend came over. Knowing about my failed attempts, she joked about how I should have probably have made something instead.

Her statement although made in jest struck a chord with me. Maybe that was it. I realized that the bookshelf was so important to me because it consisted of a collection of books I had gathered since childhood. It was important because it had stuff put together after investing a lot of time and efforts. Hence, nothing I bought from outside would match up to that. Whatever object I placed there would have to be something made by me, investing my time and efforts.

Having made up by mind, I started researching what options I had in hand. Not being anything close to an artist, I quickly eliminated options with beautiful but, complicated art and craft. Statues and sculptured were obviously out too. That’s when I came across an interesting DIY option idea – Colorful wax candles, by Divya who was kind enough to share it with us. They were not only easy to make but, looked spectacular as well.

And since such a beautiful idea needs to be shared, we present to you the process to make the most attractive crayon candles. You could use it or consider it for gifting purposes too.

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Crayons (Depending on the colors you want)
  • Box of Candles/ Pieces of wax
  • Paper Cups (For melting purposes)
  • Glasses (For adding the mixture)
  • A Simple Thread (For wick making)
  • Candy sticks
  • A pair of scissors
  • A stove

THE PROCESS:

Step 1) Add the crayons in different paper cups

Cut the crayons into small pieces. Keep each different colour in separate paper cups

Step 2) Melt the wax

Add the pieces of wax/ candle in a bowl. Heat it till it turns into liquid completely.

Step 3) Prepare the wick

Tie the thread to the candy stick. Place the candy stick horizontally on the glass and set the thread inside the glass before adding the wax. The length should be long enough to reach the bottom.

Step 4) Add the melted wax to the paper cups

Add the hot melted wax into the cups with crayon pieces added.

Step 5) Heat the mixture

Heat the mixture over the stove. Stir it well till the wax blends with the crayon. The mixture should be completely liquid.

Step 6) Repeat the process with different colours

Step 7) Pour the colours in a fancy, transparent glass

It will form layers one above the other.

IMPORTANT STYLESHAALA TIPS

  • Let each layer cool completely before adding the next layer
Let the liquid poured cool before the next colour is added.
  • Use tainted glass
Tainted colourless glass can also be used to get better effects.

Decorate the glass
The glass could be decorated to make it more attractive.

QUICK HACKS FOR YOUR LOOK

To be able to look stunning throughout the day is as big a myth as the existence of suave, rich vampires and the Hogwarts School of Wizardry. The idea sounds amazing and definitely sets you day-dreaming. But, one snap back into the mundane reality of day-to-day life and work commitments to name a few will leave you wanting.

While there’s not much we can do to fix the situation about Hogwarts and gorgeous vampires in suits, we can certainly take action about the stunning bit. And although we are perfectly ready with a series of tips to help you through your day, we’ve carved out a simple process to accomplish our mission, using just 3 valuable tips from the fashionistas and youth icons from glam street.

If you have an issue, here’s a tissue – Jeff Rich

A simple solution by the English rock drummer of former rock band ‘Status Quo. ‘ Keep a pack of wet wipes easily accessible in your handbag. There are times in the day when your skin feels dry and scratchy, especially after some time out in the scorching heat. Use the tissue and gently refresh the skin for a pleasant feeling.

I believe that all women are pretty without makeup – and can be pretty powerful with the right makeup – Bobbi Brown

A striking lady recognized worldwide for her range of products and books on beauty tips, she advises girls to keep their compact powder always handy. A slight touch up through the day keeps your face looking fresh and pretty and keeps you confident and happy.

On a bad day, there’s always lipstick – Audrey Hepburn

We couldn’t agree more with this goddess of beauty, fashion and a sensational diva to have ever lived. She carried herself with the right amount of sass and confidence and her persona was unmatched.

Follow her footsteps and get yourself the perfect shade of lipstick. Lipstick not only lightens up your face but, also gives you a definite and complete look. What’s best that it suits every situation and is a life-saver in situations where finding time is a battle and your make up resources rare.

This is all you need to look gorgeous throughout the day. And, while we’re on the topic, let us run through an important aspect of the foundation of your make up.

I have witnessed many instances where the best make up falls flat because it doesn’t do justice to a person’s skin tone. Each skin type is different and has a natural undertone. The compact powder/ foundation selected should complement the person’s look to get best results.

We at #StyleShaala provide you a quick and easy technique to identify your Skin type!

Skin types are divided into three options:-

  1. Warm undertone
  2. Cool undertone
  3. Neutral undertone

And although this sounds complicated to decipher, all you have to do is raise your hand to get the answer. Yes, that’s it.

THE PROCESS

Check out the colour of the veins at the front side of your ankle.

  1. If the veins are green in colour, you have a warm undertone.
  2. If the veins are blue in colour, you have a cool undertone.
  3. If the veins present are in both the colours, your undertone is neutral.

IMPORTANT STYLESHAALA TIPS

  • Use different shades of lipstick for different occasions

Opt for shades of pink and red for social gatherings. Keep it simple with shades of brown and light colours for formal meetings. Experiment with bolder colours for parties and wedding functions.

  • Team it up with Gloss

Add a coat of transparent or subtle coloured gloss to complete the look.

  • Application of Foundation

Spread the foundation evenly in key areas like the forehead, under the eyes and your nose line.

Honey – The Magical Pot of Remedies

0

“Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart,” is a famous quote narrated by Winnie the Pooh. The adventures of Pooh and his friends have been a childhood favourite of many little kids through ages. Pooh bear’s obsession with his honey, Piglet’s innocence, Tigger’s jokes and Eeyore’s sarcasm were loved and appreciated by many. Together they were a team seeking a new adventure everyday. Their crazy encounters led to important morals that are taught in classrooms even today.

And while they enlightened us with their take on kindness, friendship and happiness among other things, we never truly understood Pooh bear’s love for his “hunny pot” that he couldn’t do without. What seemed like a demure adoration by Pooh at the face of it might indeed have served a higher purpose when looked upon closely.

The cuddly little Pooh Bear might have unknowingly been the first unofficial health and beauty expert whilst promoting that little jar of sweetness. Honey, in different combinations, is an effective remedy for many day-to-day problems. Let’s set out on our own little adventure of discovering the secrets of this magical pot:

  1. Remember the weekend you spent coughing instead of partying at the new lounge in town? Take the help of honey the next time

Take a glass of warm water. Squeeze half a lemon. Mix 1 spoon of honey. Gulp it down and see the immediate difference.

  1. Want your skin to look smooth and glowing naturally? Just grab your bottle of honey

Take 1 tablespoon of honey. Add 2 tablespoons of cinnamon powder and mix well. Apply it on your face as a face scrub. Wash it off after 20 minutes.

  1. The scorching summer and the ruthless winter have done the trick. Your scalp is damaged and you’re fed up with the dandruff problems

Don’t waste money on changing your shampoos and conditioners. Take some honey and massage it on your scalp. Wash it off with a mild shampoo.

  1. Burns are scary. They hurt and often leave ugly marks. Use honey to get rid of them

Honey is an antioxidant. It helps in healing burns effectively. Honey can also be applied to heal wounds.

  1. It’s the Season Sale of the year. Your favourite yet expensive dress is on display at 50% off. You’re about to pick it up when you get a depressing thought. That dress won’t look good on you, especially with that tummy fat. Well, pick it up anyway.

Because in just a few weeks, you’re going to rock that dress and how! Take a glass of warm water. Squeeze a lemon and add 1 spoon of honey. Stir well and drink this on an empty stomach every morning. You will see the difference in a few weeks.

  1. Seasons change. Weathers transform. Creams come and go. But, your dry skin remains the same.

It’s hunny time. Honey acts as a wonderful moisturizer. Take 1 table spoon of honey. Add 1 spoon of almond oil. Also, add 1 spoon of rose oil. Stir the mixture and slowly rub it on your face, arms and legs. Let the mixture seep in. Do the activity a couple of times.

  1. Your head is blasting. The happy buzz from the night ago has turned into a nightmare. You curse yourself for having the last two glasses of wine. Your hangover is cruel but, your day doesn’t have to be

Make yourself a yummy hangover smoothie. Squeeze some orange juice in a blender. Add half a cup of yoghurt and 1 tablespoon of honey (You can add more of it as per the taste you prefer). Mix it well. Enjoy your smoothie while it helps you make your day better.

  1. Cholesterol Control

Take 1 teaspoon of honey. Squeeze half a lemon. Add 1 spoon of powdered cinnamon. Mix the ingredients in a glass of water. Consume the mixture daily for reducing your cholesterol level.

  1. The Warrior that fights Cancer

Including honey in your diet helps reduce the risk of Cancer. Honey has carcinogens that help build the body’s immunity against the harmful disease.

Indeed, the smallest things take up the most room in our hearts. And the smallest ingredient can offer the most magical solutions.

Alia Bhatt Look: Bollywood chic ponytail hairstyle

0

Looking gorgeous is never easy right? It requires tremendous effort, a lot of thinking and every aspect covered. First, you need to hunt for the perfect outfit. Once that’s covered, you have to get your make up right. Even then, the task is barely accomplished.

Even after you have the perfect dress and make up for the occasion ready, it all falls flat if your hair isn’t done right. Getting the right hairstyle becomes as crucial as boarding the train was for Kajol in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge or getting home was for the baby in ‘Baby’s Day out.’ Jokes aside but, the way you do your hair is very important in how you finally end up looking.

Everyday, there are thousands of Videos and articles freely available on styling hair. Different hairstyles are elaborately shown and explained to go with every occasion. Be it a wedding, a party or a birthday lunch, there are a pool of options to choose from that makes you look complete. However, the options are somewhat limited when it comes to hairstyles that go aptly with a formal attire.

In the recent times, Bollywood actress ‘Alia Bhatt’ has quite nailed the look though. Her appearances on various TV shows and promotional events have had her opting for the formal and elegant look. Her youthful charm and carefree attitude have been nicely embedded into a delightful look. Deepika Padukone and Kareena Kapoor Khan have contributed to the look as well. And they’ve done it by opting for a simple ponytail.

It is difficult to imagine the simple school girl ponytail look so attractive. But, these leading ladies have done it. They have set a lovely trend that is classy and comfortable at the same time. I mean, who could have thought that ponytails could look this sexy. But, they clearly do.

We at Styleshaala bring to you the easiest way to get the look. The process is simple and hardly takes any time. Remember the next meeting you have to go to that is monotonous. Here’s a way to add a little glamour to it. Because you know it girl. The better you look, the better you feel.

Step 1: Leaving a front puff, pull up two sections from the side

A puff is a good way to enhance your face cut. It looks trendy and makes your hair look voluminous. Leaving a side puff aside, pull up two sections of your hair from either side all the way to the top.

Step 2: Pin up this partition with two hairpins

You can use more pins depending on the length and volume of your hair. However, do not use too many pins as it will look untidy and spoil the look.

Step 3: Pin up the front puff with Bobby pins

Pin the puff up. Do not pull it too hard or it will fall flat on your face. This will ruin the puffy effect.

Step 4: Gather all the sections together in a side ponytail

Gather all the sections together at one side. Tie them up in a ponytail with the help of a rubberband.

IMPORTANT #STYLESHAALA TIPS

  • Straighten the hair you’ve parted for the puff

This will give a neater and more collected look.

  • Do not use colourful rubber bands and hairpins

To keep your look simple and formal, do not use different coloured pins and bands. Your hair will look unkept and take the formal look away.

  • Braid your hair for different looks

You can tie up the sections together in a side braid or normal braid at the back. You can also try a French braid to experiment with different looks. The process remains the same.

  • Apply light make up or just prominent eye-make up to complete the look

Do not use excessive makeup in a formal gathering.

Fun with Fashion: Minion Nail Art

0

Fashion is what fashion does. Fashion is a way of expression – a means of experimentation. A common notion of the meaning of fashion is perceived as a popular style of clothing. The word ‘popular’ in itself suggests a trend that has been caught on by a majority of people. It is followed by a majority of a particular section.  But, is that all that is.

Fashion in its true sense is limitless. It is what defines you as an individual. It is something that makes you happy. It is something that reveals a little bit about your attitude and ideas by just a look in your direction. It is, in its simplest form a reflection into what you like or believe. It is about letting your guard down and time and again having fun with its collaboration.

So, why stick to the norms. Take a break. Be different. Be you. Embrace your inner child. Ask yourself what you like and flash that facet with confidence and sass. Use your quirkiness and turn it into art. Start with baby steps. Don a Minnie Mouse scarf or a colourful set of accessories with your favourite colours. Wear your Teddy Bear hat or get those minions on your nails. (And before we proceed any further, a little insight into my choice of character. I opted for the minions because I personally love their annoying rant and the humour surrounding them. It could be Powerpuff Girls or Tom and Jerry for you.) Characters may change, the idea remains the same.

So moving on, while the first three tasks are fairly easy to accomplish, do not let your thoughts falter at the minion nail art. We, at Styleshaala present to you the easiest way to flaunt your craziest little piece of art. It’s time to let your hair down, put your fingers out and have some fun.

WHAT YOU NEED:

Yellow Nail polish

Silver Nail Polish

White Nail Polish

Black Nail Polish

Blue Acrylic Paint

Small brush

Small Dotting Tool

Small Painting Brush

Artificial Nails (Optional) – You can do the art on your own nails

THE PROCESS

Step 1: Apply yellow Nail polish

Apply a dark coat of polish. Let it dry completely before moving on.

Step 2: Apply the Blue Acrylic paint

Use a thin, small brush to paint the nail. Watch the video to look at the design. Do not spread the paint too much or it will lead to different shades of the same colour.

Step 3: 3D Effect Eyes for the Minion

Use the silver nail paint to make a pair of eyes. Just gently touch the nail paint brush on your nail.

Use the white paint next to make a smaller dot on either drop.

Use a dotting tool to spread the colour evenly in the shape you want. You can use a toothpick in place of the dotting tool .

Finally, use the black nail paint last to add the final coat to the eyes. Ensure that the dots keep getting smaller and do not merge within.

Hold the brush in a horizontal position and apply light pressure.

Step 4: Minion dollar smile

Use the thin paint brush or a stroke brush or a pen to complete the nail art with a smile. Use the black nail paint to make a thin smile of the minion.

To make the nail art more elaborate, you can use the brush to add eyelashes to the eyes on either side. Use the black nail paint to add 2 or 3 strokes. Watch the Video to look at the design.

IMPORTANT #STYLESHAALA TIPS

  • Experiment with colours

You can experiment with colours to make different characters of art.

  • Use brighter colours

Dull colours do now show very clearly, especially the minute details.

  • Ensure that the nail paint is completely dried up

Patience is the key for any kind of nail art. Let each coat dry before adding to it.

HOW TO PREVENT AND TREAT DARK CIRCLES

0

Deepika Padukone in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani! Anushka Sharma in Sultan! Alia Bhatt in Kapoor and Sons! Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil! Vaani Kapoor in Befikre! What was the one thing common between all these characters? Inspite of the nature of their work, their hectic lifestyles, the stress they went through, none of them miraculously had ‘Dark circles.’

Dark circles are indeed a phenomena that could make any woman cringe. It makes a person always look tired and dull. Sometimes, if not taken care of, it can even make one look shabby and not presentable. And even though we have our make-up kits handy for such kind of emergencies, after a particular point, even they render useless in hiding the dark spots around the eyes.

While majority people are aware of sleep-deprivation being a key factor in causing dark circles, here are a few lesser known facts about Dark circles:

  • Dark circles can be increased by using the wrong Make up remover

Excessively using the wrong make up remover can damage the area under the skin thus, making the dark circles worse.

  • Diet and age have a role to play in dark circles

Eating foods that cause inflammation can cause dark circles. As you grow older, the skin begins to lose its elasticity and slows down the natural recovery process. This results in dark circles taking a longer time to heal.

  • Scratching the eyes too much can make dark circles bad

It results in collection of germs thus, making the situation worse.

  • Too much exposure to the sun can cause dark circles

Analysing the facts, we can conclude that although there are some factors that can be taken care of to get rid of dark circles, some factors just cannot be helped. Owing to the various work and social life commitments, it becomes difficult to maintain a healthy environment around the eyes to get rid of the dark circles.

Skin problems like dark circles resurface again and again. They also take a longer time to go away. Also, unless you are one of the characters from the Bollywood movies who have a team of artistes handy to take care of their diet and skin, it isn’t advisable to depend on your Concealer alone to get rid of it.

Hence, we at #StyleShaala provide you with 2 easy ingredients to help the situation. These two methods from ‘Grandma’s Kitchen’ will take some time to show its results. But, they will certainly show the results you need. Just like the saying that has been with us from Grandma’s time ‘Slow and Steady wins the Race.’

HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED:

1 Cucumber OR 1 Potato

Peeler

Grater

THE PROCESS:

  • Peel the Cucumber/ Potato

Both the ingredients are equally helpful to get rid of dark circles. You can use either of them for best results. Depending on how dark the circles are, you can use the quantity accordingly. Initially, half of each vegetable should also suffice.

  • Grate the Cucumber/ Potato

Grate it into the finest particles. Gather them in a bowl.

  • Apply the juice from the Cucumber/ Potato

Squeeze out the juice with your fingers. Apply it gently under the eyes. Do not rub it harshly.

Incase of any itchy feeling or burning sensation, wash your eyes immediately. Let it remain on your face.

  • Repeat the process everyday

Do it everyday for 2-3 weeks. You will see the difference in your skin patch. The effect of this homemade remedy will take time but, will have an effect for a longer period of time.

#StyleShaala TIPS

    1. Include anti-flammatory food items in your diet like celery, beetroot, broccoli, pineapple etc.
    1. If you apply Make-up often, preferably use oil to remove it.
    1. Do not forget to protect your eyes with sunglasses when outdoors in scorching heat.
  1. Be careful to completely remove the kajal from your eyes before sleeping.

HOW TO FOLD YOUR MOTHER’S SAREE

0

The sound of Wedding bells is the soothing sound of the season! Your favourite cousin has finally found her Prince Charming. Preparations are on and your phone calls to the designers are on speed dial. There’s so much to be done and so little time. To top it all, it’s the big fat Indian wedding in Jaipur and you have to be prepared with everything atleast a week in advance. ’ I mean once you’re there, there’s no way to get those pair of earrings you forgot at home. And besides, the last week is for the last minute Sangeet practices on ‘Dilliwali Girlfriend’ and ‘High Heels you just cannot miss.

Fast forward to the wedding functions! You are having the time of your life. You’ve danced, partied, soicalized and got a few Rishtas in the process. The expensive Saree and the fancy blouses have had quite an impact! Your parents are quite happy. The Bride is ecstatic. You’re on a high. But, then comes the buzzkill on the last day.

While you’re in the room relaxing after a sad Bidaai ceremony, the three days’ fatigue is taking a toll on you. And to make matters worse, your Mum comes to your room, still weeping and asks you to help her pack her bags. Why? Because she’s clearly very upset to do it by herself. And seeing your cousin depart on a new journey, she’s realized you’ll be next sometime soon and she has very little precious time left with you.

Although, your Mum is being adorable, this can be a dangerous situation. Packing your bags together includes folding and packing her Sabyasachi Saree that you’re too scared to even touch. And if the job isn’t done neatly and efficiently enough, all that affection for you is going to turn into worry and anger at the speed of lightening. Worry because you have to get married and you still can’t fold a saree. And anger because you clearly weren’t paying attention when she was teaching you how to do this impossible task. Of course, you could ask her to do it. But, considering the gamut of emotions she is going through right now, we wouldn’t recommend it.

But, while you’re cursing destination weddings and wondering why your housemaid wasn’t invited, #Styleshaala has done the work for you. Here are a few simple steps, we recommend you follow to get the Saree neatly folded and see that proud smile on your mother’s face.

Step 1) Hold the Pallu (loose end of the saree) and go all the way to the other end

      (a) While moving your hand across to the other end, gather the pleats of the saree, holding them between your fingers.

      (b) Ensure that both the ends match so that the folds are evenly divided

      (c) Be careful that the Saree doesn’t fold from the bottom. Try and hold it a little away from the ground.

Step 2) Stretch your arms and bring the folded ends together

  1. Be careful to check all the pleats are in order, between your fingers before doing this.
  1. Fold the saree gently and be careful that the saree doesn’t crease in any way.

Step 3) Stretch your arms again and fold it together

  1. With the help of your fingers, go through the fold.
  1. Keep matching the borders till you have one thick fold.

Step 4) Fold the saree vertically now

  1. Tuck one end of the saree under your neck so that your hands can reach out to the center of the fold.
  2. Match both the ends equally.

Step 5) Fold the Saree again

  1. Fold the Saree for the last time and ensure that the pleats settle over each other equally.

#StyleShaala TIPS

  • Wrap your saree in plastic before packing

Plastic prevents friction and reduces the chances of creasing. You can use plastic zip-top bags.

  • Pack the sarees with heavy work  inwards

To preserve the heavy work on the saree, fold it inside preventing any exposure or friction.

  • Preservation of silk sarees

Preserve the saree in a cotton bag or wrap it in a cotton cloth. It is advisable to iron them keeping a cotton cloth covering the saree first.

COMPLETE EYE MAKEUP UNDER 5 MINS | WITH SHADOW, KAJAL & MASCARA

In an international Survey conducted by a reputed website, a majority of Men and Women found the Eyes to be the most attractive feature in a person. The survey result showed that most men were immediately attracted to a woman based on their Eyes. They attributed a wide range of qualities ranging from kindness, warmth, honesty to sensuality by just looking at the eyes.  Also, many women said they judged how reliable, honest and confident a man was by just a look at their eyes.

Many Face Reading Experts too place a lot of emphasis on this important element to determine a Person’s personality. According to the century old Chinese Face reading techniques, the experts believe that ‘Eyes are the Window to the Soul’ and predict many characteristics of a person based on how their Eyes are.

    • People with big eyes are perceived to be broad minded, extremely creative, restless and adventurous while small eyes are indicators of people who are very methodical, focused and firmly rooted to their beliefs.
    • In Japanese culture, there is a special term ‘Sanpaku eyes’ allocated to people with ‘Floating irises’ (i.e. eye where the white portion is visible either above or below the irises). People having the white space below the iris are believed to fighting inner battles.  They have a different outlook towards the world and are difficult to please. Princess Diana is a good example. People with a white space above the iris are known for their temper and are dangerous when tampered with.
  • People with deepset eyes are intense, passionate and secretive while people with eyes slanting upwards are opportunists.

Apart from Science, your eye make-up plays a key role in how you look on important occasions. Many famous make-up artistes have realized the importance of the perfect Eye-do to add to the oomph factor. A few of them have moved a bold step forward and used the look to successfully up the glam quotient. Mrs. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan being the case in point. At the 69thCannes Film Festival, her turquoise eye shadow with no other loud makeup perfectly complimented her Ali Younes cape gown. Her bold look was applauded internationally for being a perfect blend of beauty, class and aesthetics. Many celebrities like Sonam Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Priyanka Chopra have successfully carried the look off as well, looking their stunning best.

We at #StyleShaala have loved the idea as well. We totally believe this innovation to be a win-win in any social gathering and the oh-so-cool party. It is especially a boon for someone who doesnt want to cover her face with excessive make up, yet look dolled up for the occasion. So, without wasting any precious time, we present to you the easiest way to spot the look in just 5 minutes.

PRODUCTS YOU NEED:

Vaseline

Face Primer

Eyeshadow

Eyeliner

Kajal

Ear bud

THE PROCESS:

  • Apply Vaseline and Primer

Apply a coat of Vaseline on the eyes. Then apply Primer. This will help the make-up last longer and even the skin out for smooth application.

  • Apply the Eye shadow

Pick a shade of your choice. Preferably, use a thin brush to apply the shade comfortably.

Technique:

Start applying the shade from the outer tip of your eye. Slowly move the strokes inwards upto the middle of the eyelid. Repeat the action to form a triangular shaped coat on your eye.

Use a earbud to lighten or remove the excess colour on unwanted areas.

  • Apply Kajal

Decide how thick you want your kajal to be. Select your brand accordingly. Apply the kajal in one swift motion under the eye. Be careful to apply it on the lower eyelid and not below it. Use your finger for balance.

  • Apply Eyeliner

Using your eyeliner , make a border first. Then, fill in the eyeliner. Apply the eyeliner in one direction only. Ensure that the coat of eyeliner is equal on both sides.

  • Use a Mascara

Use a mascara for your eyelashes. Mascara will enhance the look of your eyes, giving it a complete look. Do not use excessive mascara while application. Just gently rub the brush upwards on your eyes.

  • Use an Eye curler

Although it’s not necessary, we advise you to always use an eye curler. It settles the eyelashes neatly and gives a professional look to your make up.

#StyleShaala TIP

  • Choose the eyeshadow colour as per the occasion

Use black, grey or dark blue for a professional setting. Use a matching shade for parties and other occasions. Avoid using glitter when opting for a sophisticated and simple look.

  • Use a Lipstick that compliments your look

Do not go for a bold or different colour unless the occasion demands it or you’re confident about carrying the look.

TATTOO COVER UP USING MAKE UP

It’s that time of the year. The glitz and glamour of a spectacular destination blended with dazzling faces and unique themes. The wedding season is in full swing. But, amidst the grandeur and festivities lies the important encounter with friends, relatives and acquaintances, some of them close, some of them you’ve barely met but, all of them with a lot of curiosity about your life.

There is a league of relatives known for giving the best advice on education. And then there is a successful lot of relatives waiting to share their knowledge on the career choices you make. The fashion experts are the best at observation and compliments. And who can forget the adorable match-makers of the family – providing the best future prospects for you.

In totality, most of them are well-wishers wanting to help you in different genres of your life. And due to the years of practice that you’ve gained, you are an expert in answering, occasionally dodging and frequently handling their questions.

But, there is one topic that is still difficult to explain, yet garners the most attention. Very much like watching the movie ‘Inception.’ It is a fascinating watch, everyone has their own interpretation of the story yet, very few fully understand it.  And that very mysterious topic is that of the permanent Tattoo you got.

Getting a tattoo is an important decision someone makes after putting much thought into it. It is usually something that has deeply influenced a person and is therefore, a part of his/ her existence. However, some ideologies are difficult to explain to the opposite person, mainly when the person doesn’t believe or stand for that concept. And there is also a risk of being stereotyped as being ‘very modern’ or ‘a rebel’ that might not always be good for your reputation. At such times, what most people would prefer is to hide that body art from plain view, instead of having to explain what it means in the middle of a glamorous Sangeet performance on ‘Galla goodiyan.’

As cleverly put by an intelligent man, ‘Prevention is better than Cure.’ And although this seems like a complex task to accomplish, especially with all eyes on you and the Facebook and Instagram pictures you’re going to be tagged in, it really isn’t.  All thanks to an important savior in your Make up kit called Foundation.

The Products you need for your little Cover-up:

  1. Foundation (As per your skin tone)
  2. Vaseline or Petroleum Jelly
  3. Talcum powder
  4. A Brush
  5. A sponge

BOLLYWOOD HAIRSTYLE: SIDE PUFF/ SWEPT BANG FOR COLLEGE GIRLS

My 20 year old cousin from USA is a huge fan of Bollywood movies. She loves dancing on the peppy Bollywood numbers and binge watching the Yash Chopra/ Karan Johar love stories. She is also crazy about Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan both. Can’t really blame her for that.  After all, there are very few people who aren’t.

Also, for as long as I can remember, these actors and directors have contributed greatly in creating the fairytale side of Bollywood. Being quite a romantic herself, I totally understood where her liking for the the deeply engaging love stories and happily ever afters came from. So, while discussing the topic with her, it came as no surprise when she told me her what her favourite movies and songs were. It didn’t even surprise me that her current favourite track was ‘Gerua’ from Dilwale. But, what surprised me was what really fascinated her about these songs.

Apart from the undying love the characters portrayed, she found the direction of the scenes very visually appealing. She told me how she was highly impressed by the larger than life locations and the colour coordinated costumes. Nothing surprising about that, you might say. No, certainly not. But, what actually impressed her the most was the effective use of wind to dramatize a particular scene or song, as she put it. She thought it added so much value to an already romantic setting when the subtle wind blew on the actor and actress’ face and made them look a gazillion times more attractive. She stated how “unfortunately” this never happened in Hollywood movies and there were barely any songs within the movies as well. Hence, it was a novelty to watch. Thank god she said that. Now her explanation made sense.

However, we then moved on to discuss the costumes and hairstyles. She jokingly told me how she loved to let her hair just be. But, since she didn’t have her own personal stylist nor could she afford one at the moment, she would look like a mess five minutes after stepping out of the house. Although, she wouldn’t mind if someone could show her the complicated puff hairstyles , now popularly known as swept bangs that she saw many actresses do. But, sadly for her, she did not know the technique nor had the time to do any of it. That statement made me wonder if it really was as difficult as it seemed.

Turns out, it really isn’t. Lucky for my cousin, we at #StyleShaala did a little bit of research and found out the simplest way to achieve the goal. The technique is quite simple and barely takes any time. I sent the video to my cousin and saw the pictures she sent. I must say, it looks quite amazing. The hair looks trendy, neat and fashionable. So girls! Flaunt your new hairdo when you go to college next and set a few heads turning. It’s time for a new Bollywood story.

We present to you the simplest technique to make your hair look like your favourite Bollywood diva’s in a couple of minutes. Here’s all you need:

A Comb

A Rubberband

2 Hairpins

5 minutes of your valuable time

Follow these simple steps and look your puffy best:

Step 1: Part away a puff from the front side

Take one little portion of your hair and take it one side. Do not make the strand very thin for best results.

Step 2: Pull up two sections of hair from both sides

Take the remaining lock of hair from one side and the other side of your hair to tie up in a half ponytail. Keep it even on both sides.

Step 3: Making it a ponytail, tie it with a rubber band

Make it tight and keep the ponytail a little high.

Step 4: Now take the side puff and pin it on the side

Take the strand of hair and pin it on one side. Use the hairpin at the edges. Do not make it tight. Keep a little space on top so that, the puff remains.

FOR OSCAR LIKE OCCASIONS: BLING NAIL ART

0

Hello, Gorgeous!” was the term made famous by the beautiful and talented actress, Barbra Streisand in the movie ‘Funny Girl.’ Girls in the 60’s and 70’s went crazy when the diva uttered the magical words looking at herself in the mirror in the movie. Her character ‘Fanny Price’s journey of rise to fame and  her portrayal of a confident and fashionable lady won the hearts of many. Much like Kareena Kapoor’s evergreen character ‘Poo’ from Kabhie Khushi Gham was appreciated for her style, attitude and elegance. I mean, which Bollywood buff could forget a similar scene when she speaks to herself in front of the mirror at the introduction of her character.

Just like her character won her accolades, Barbra Streisand’s fame in the movie too led to her winning the Oscar for ‘Best Actress.’ The term gained popularity all over again when spoke the same words “Hello, Gorgeous!” to the prestigious award she received. The paparazzi, critics and the fraternity praised her for rightfully portraying the Oscar for what it was – an event that appreciated everything worthy and beautiful.

From its advent in 1929, the Academy Awards ceremony, which started as a 15 minute ceremony in its initial years has proceeded to become the most glamorous event of all times. It is the ultimate fashion affair where the top Hollywood celebrities walk down the red carpet raising the temperature in their stunning Guccis, Armanis and Louis Vuitton attires.

While the fashion lovers religiously follow the occasion to check out the latest styles and trends, fashion critics too keep a keen eye on the event to take a note of the fashion hits and misses for the season right from the hairdo to the nail polish used. However, not far behind are the personality experts who have successfully started linking the choice of colours and attire used to the different personalities and moods of the superstars.

Although this may seem a little far-fetched, it has been successful in providing many apt descriptions. For instance, while a choice of neon coloured nail polish is a reflection of someone who is all set to be the life of a party, a dark coloured tone is an example of someone who prefers a little mystery. Someone opting for floral nail art is most definitely sweet and feminine, while someone opting for a red tone is sassy and downright confident.

So, even though the Oscars this year may have had its small share of goof-ups in La La Land under the Moonlight, Styleshaala is here to help you get the right set of nails for the Oscar like important occasions in your life. Because we understand your need to be perfect to the T and give others the opportunity to get a glimpse of the real glitzy you in the tiniest of details.

The 3 Musketeers you need for your look are:

A Toothpick

1 shade of nail polish

2-3 colours of paint

The Fantastic Four Steps:

  • Step 1: Add 5 drops of glitter

Apply one coat of nail polish. Add 5 drops of glitter on it forming a circle. Hold the polish brush horizontally and use a colour that’s visible.

  • Step 2: Use the toothpick to elaborate the design

Take the sharp edge of the toothpick. Make a line from inside out in the center of the 5 drops.

  • Step 3: Complete the flower design

Take the blunt edge of the toothpick and draw it in the center to complete the flower design. Use a different bright colour for this.

  • Step 4: Repeat the process for the remaining space

Draw one more flower if there is more space on your hand. You can decide whether you want one big flower or 2-3 small ones.

Fast 5 Important #StyleShaala Tips on How to Choose the Colours:

  • Don’t be a Dark Knight

Do not use dark colours for both the nail polish and the paint. Otherwise the nail art won’t stand out.

  • Go Blended

Try and blend the colour of the nail polish with the outfit you’re wearing. Or select a colour that compliments the dress. For instance, do not opt for a green nail polish with a beige outfit.

  • Be careful with your Avatar

Go for subtle or one tone colours on formal occasions. Do not use colours like orange and yellow.

  • Get Bedazzled

Use glitter to get the glam look. Do not use too many colours.

  • Take the role of Miss Congeniality

Add drops that compliment the design to the empty spaces. But, be neat. Leave gaps in the middle. Try using one colour that suits all.
